Mission Statement
Our mission is to defend and protect human rights in all aspects, to work hard and provide the world with the most trusted information regarding the Yezidis (Ezdae) people around the globe; to educate people to learn the truth about the innocent Yezidis (Ezdae), to give lectures and presentations about human rights and to help and teach classes to the Yezidis’ children about human rights and also to work with government of the country and International Communities and report any abuses and violations against humanity and human rights.
The Yezidis, Ezidis (Ezdae)
We Yezidis are an Ezidi speaking people who live principally in northern Iraq presently. We number approximately 650,000 - 750,000 in Iraq; smaller populations live in Syria, and Turkey, Russia, Armenia, Georgia and with more than 200,000 settled in other parts of the world especially Germany and other European countries such as the Netherlands, France, Denmark, Belgium, Austria; small communities live in USA, Canada, Australia, etc. We Yezidis are mostly a poor and oppressed people in today’s world without basic human rights recognition and protection from the International Communities, but we have a very rich spiritual tradition that we contend is the world's oldest people. Originally we Ezidis are from the heartland of Mesopotamia (Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey and Iran) and also some live in India. And about 900 years ago, we Yezidis also were living in Afghanistan (Kandahar), Yemen (Sinjar), Tunis, Morocco and Algeria, but unfortunately due to Islamic extremists and fanatics’ attacks against us, the Yezidi people were totally annihilated in those regions.
Well before this time, as far back as 4000 B.C., we Yezidis were living in the Middle East and playing an important role in the Sumerian, Babylonian, Assyrian, and Jewish civilizations.
Today, we (the Yezidis) have the oldest religion in the world, contending that the truth of this is reflected in the antiquity of our calendar. We can trace back our religious calendar 6760 years, thus making 2010 Calendar Era (CE), the Yezidis year of 6760. In relation to some of the other major religions, our Yezidi Calendar is 4,750 years older than the Christian or Gregorian calendar, 990 years older than the Jewish calendar, and it is 5329 years older than the Muslim Calendar.
In the past 20 years to present, especially since the internet has become the easiest way to find information regarding whatever a person wishes to search for. We have seen that more than 99% of the writers accusing the innocent Yezidi as devil worshipers, this is absolutely pure fiction. During the Saddam’s era, the Yezidis were misclassified as Arab in ethnicity by his political force. Although Saddam has gone, but the KRG (Real Dictators) has come to power in Northern Iraq since 1991, and they also are forcing the innocent Yezidis to be misclassified as Kurdish; again this time under KRG’s brutal and dictatorial system. All these are misleading, untruth, and pure fiction information about the innocent Yezidis (Ezdae). Because of all these misunderstanding the truth about the Yezidis, we have been attacked more than 73 of times in the past 1000 years to present, therefore we (Ezdae) have lost millions of innocent Yezidis in those brutal and inhumane attacks against this most indigenous and peaceful nation in the world today.
The Yezidi Human Rights Organization-International is a non-profit organization formed by the Yezidis of Canada, United States, Europe, and Iraq. Our mission is to work hard and provide the world with the most trusted information regarding us “Yezidis people” (Ezdae) around the globe, and to educate people to learn the truth about the innocent Yezidi (Ezdae), so they can look at us with the new peaceful eyes.
The Yezidi (Ezdae) faith is not missionary one therefore both our “religion” and “ethnicity” are combined into one word (Ezidi). The Yezidis have rights to exit from the Yezidi faith at anytime he/she wants to, but must not be by force and influence of extremists’. And we also do not have the right to accept others into our Yezidi’s faith, “God created our religion this way.” Therefore, while we Yezidi have a closed faith, “The Ezidis are Ezidis by both Religion and Ethnicity”. In our own spelling and pronunciation for our Religion is called “Ezdae” which means one of the divine names of God (We are created by Supreme God), and for the Ethnicity and language it is called “Ezidi”.
We now live in the 21 Century, we Yezidi believe it is important and it is time for the world to learn and understand the truth about our Yezidi religion, history, and ancient cultural tradition. Our history has been written with “Tears and Blood” throughout the time. Please visit us and learn the truth about us (our history, religion, culture, language), and ongoing attacks of annihilation and tragic persecution against us (Yezidis) still continue.
FOR THE YEZIDIS HUMAN RIGHTS
-
The Yezidis must have the rights of religion and ethnic identity completely separate from the Kurdish and Arabs, and both should respect and recognize this identity (Yezidi Identity)
-
The Yezidis' holy places such as Lalish must be under the UN protection, because the KRG is preventing those innocent Yezidis who are not accepting the "Kurdification" from visiting it (Holy Lalish )
-
The Security, Police, Military forces and Administration in the Yezidis regions must be formed from the Yezidis, so they can protect the regions from any “Terrorists” actions.
-
Both Men and Women have equal rights and responsibilities in the society
-
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) must end its use of militias force against the Yezidi civilians, including assimilations of Kurdification; attacks and bribes to the Kurdification involving behind the seen. Moreover, KRG must stop land seizures of Yezidis regions; agricultural farms; arbitrary arrests and imprisonment; torture; assassinations; expulsions; curfews; travel restrictions in Northern Iraq; abuse at checkpoints; raids; collective punishment; and other violations of human rights
-
The international community should be able to support the Yezidi efforts to promote democracy and Yezidis human rights, while understanding that this aim cannot be even partially achieved under occupation of KRG and its militia forces. They must get out of our regions…
Your help and support to Yezidi Human Rights Organization is very much appreciated.
